Clarence Wilfong, 88, retired from Forest Service

      Clarence Wilfong, a retired Forest Service woods worker of Lewiston, died Monday of cancer at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. He was 88.
      He was born Sept. 6, 1909, to George and Mary Ann Grasser Wilfong at Orofino. He graduated from Victor Twenty School on Upper Ford’s Creek at Orofino.
      An early marriage to Loda Cooper ended in divorce.
      He worked as a blaster and powder man and as a construction worker.
      He married Isabel Patterson. She died in October 1972.
      He later worked as a cedar pole maker, log sawyer and sawmill worker. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service in 1972.
      He married Alberta L. James Nov. 3, 1973.
      He was a member of the Idaho Outdoor Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, rock hounding, making jewelry, gardening, flowers, restoring historical signs, winemaking, fly tying and reloading shells.
      His survivors include his wife at the family home; two sons, Gerald Wilfong of Lewiston and Dwain Wilfong of Culdesac; a daughter Corrine Cox of Portland, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Raetta D. Carlin of Lewiston and Linda D. Smole of Spokane; a stepson, William R. Smith of Spokane; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
      At the family’s request no service will be held. The family suggests memorials to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Home Health Hospice, P.O. Box 816, Lewiston 83501.
